Hey, how'd they get those tennis balls moving like that?

The Concord Country Club 60/70 tournament, held from July 10-13, was a big success with 68 entries, more than last year.  It is also significant that there were a number of out of section players e.g. from GA, NJ, NY, and FL.  We will be seeing many of them again with the rule rescinded that kept them out of NE sectional tournaments.

The largest draw was for men’s 60 singles with 21.  There were some very tight matches; in the semis, finalist Kari Juusela defeated Jon Wilson 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 but then lost to last year’s 60 singles winner Jon Bates, 6-1, 6-0.  However, Jon got a retirement due to injury in his semis match with Howard Rugaber from GA so he was fresher for the final.

There was a large consolation draw as well and Casey Moore defeated Tom Hastings 6-2, 6-0 to win it.
